1 December 1910 · 19 October 1993
Emlyn Jenkins died in Andover, Hampshire, on 19 October 1993, aged eighty-two, far, as his obituary put it, from the scenes of his days of glory. But the people who saw him play never quite forgot him, and neither, now, will we.
Not quite a year before he died, he was still being asked. On 27 November 1992, he was a guest at Andover Rugby Football Club, at an event hosted by Will Carling, the England captain of the day. In the photograph, the two of them each hold one of Emlyn's own caps, a Welshman from the Rhondda and an England captain, sixty years and two codes of rugby apart, still finding something to hold in common.
Compiled by his family in 2026, from letters, newspaper cuttings, and memories kept for over sixty years by his daughters Barbara and Wendy, and researched by his grandson Matthew.
